HARRISONBURG, VA — On Friday, Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin presented the second 2025 Spirit of Virginia Award to New Creation VA at a ceremony in Harrisonburg, Virginia. New Creation VA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was honored for its exceptional work in combatting human trafficking through a creative local and global approach. The organization partners with over 90 groups across five continents to provide dignified work opportunities for individuals rescued from, or vulnerable to, human trafficking. The award was presented to New Creation VA’s leadership in the presence of local officials, supporters, and community partners. Following the presentation, the Governor and First Lady highlighted the organization's innovative programs, which focus on education and job creation to break the cycle of exploitation and make freedom possible.
"New Creation VA is a shining example of how determination and innovation can break the cycle of human trafficking and restore hope to those in need," said Governor Glenn Youngkin. "Their dedication to empowering survivors and creating opportunities for freedom and dignity is truly inspiring, and it reflects the heart of what makes Virginia exceptional. It is an honor to recognize their transformative work with the second 2025 Spirit of Virginia Award."
"Too often it is Virginia’s women and girls who get caught in a cycle of exploitation and abuse,” said First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin. “Thankfully, nonprofits like New Creation VA answer the higher call to protect ‘the least of these’ by empowering survivors of human trafficking and working tirelessly on education and awareness. New Creation VA is making a profound difference in the lives of so many — ensuring freedom and dignity for all.”
"Our team is incredibly honored to receive the Spirit of Virginia Award," said Co-Founders of New Creation VA Steven Andrew and Sabrina Dorman-Andrew. "Our mission is a testament to the power of compassion and resilience within our community. Together, we are strengthening the spirit of Virginia by illuminating the path to freedom for all."
highlights unique contributions and achievements across the Commonwealth and honors those who make extraordinary impacts in various sectors, from private industry and education to culture, the arts, and philanthropy.
In addition to recognizing New Creation VA, Governor Glenn Youngkin and his administration have demonstrated a strong commitment to combating human trafficking in the Commonwealth. On January 15, 2022, Governor Youngkin issued Executive Order Number Seven, establishing the Commission on Human Trafficking Prevention and Survivor Support, which focuses on preventing human trafficking and providing essential support to survivors.
The administration is also working closely with the Attorney General’s Office to combat human trafficking through increased enforcement, victim support, and public awareness initiatives. This partnership reinforces Virginia’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable and holding traffickers accountable.
Additionally, the Virginia State Police have launched a Human Trafficking Hotline, allowing individuals to anonymously report suspected human trafficking incidents. If you suspect trafficking, you can contact the hotline by texting “VSP” and your tip to 847411 or by clicking here.
